ceglia messapica

ostuni

15km from Trulli Trazzonara

Ostuni is one of Puglia’s most beautiful cities, a tumble of white-washed buildings perched strategically atop a hill.

It has views of the endless olive trees in the Valle d’Itria countryside and the glimmering Adriatic Sea just 8 km away, home to some of the region’s most exclusive resorts.

The medieval walled city was built without a plan, and it shows. The web of streets is confusing, a maze of alleyways, staircases and arches.

The main street in Ostuni is lined with boutiques and souvenir shops selling local olive oil and Salentino sandals, but the best way to experience the town is by diving down the narrow side streets and like the invaders once did, getting lost.

18km from Trulli Trazzonara

A beguiling historic town near Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica is often overlooked by those bee-lining for the beaches. That's a shame because this is one of the oldest towns in , dating back to the 15th century BC. It also has one of the largest historic centers, which is amazingly well preserved.

So before you head to the beach, spend some time exploring the city and its restaurants as Ceglie Messapica is also revered as the culinary capital of Puglia.

alberobello

castellana grotte

42km from Trulli Trazzanaro

The town of Castellana Grotte is not to be confused with the "grotte di Castellana" which is the main attraction here. While much of the town is modern, it has an old city center with churches and palaces. With a population of 19,000, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes in the tight grid of streets that make up its centro. A walk around town is worthwhile before or after you've visited the famous caverns.

28km from Trulli Trazzanaro

Unesco World Heritage Site Alberobello resembles an urban sprawl – for gnomes.

If you park in Lago Martellotta, follow the steps up to Piazza del Popolo, where the Belvedere Trulli lookout offers fabulous views over the one of the most uniquely, spectacular sites in the world.
